An Alternative Education

"As a college graduate with a psychology degree,
I had to decide between getting my masters degree
or getting an alternative education and taking the
road less traveled by! The HLC's Holistic Spiritual
Counselor's educational curriculum exceeded my expectations.
I've received the holistic education I really wanted
at one-fifth the cost of a traditional education and
in one-third the time!" In the spring of 1995, I graduated from Villanova
University with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology.
While deciding what my next educational step would
be, I found employment and a tidal wave of experience
working in adult psychiatric short-term care.

After a year and a half, I was restless for a
change, but I was still confused about which path to take next.
The traditional disciplines that I had once considered studying
now seemed too limiting! I felt drawn to techniques based on
the body/mind/spirit connection. I knew that healing involved
much more than medication and quick-fixes, and holistic/alternative
therapies seemed to be on the right track.
A few weeks later (by no accident) I picked up
a holistic periodical and read an article written by Hu Dalconzo
the founder of Holistic Learning Centers. My intuition told
me to call and find out more about becoming a Holistic Spiritual
Counselor. I did, and enrolled shortly thereafter.
My first assignment as a counselor-in-training
was to use the OBM Self-Mastery Process to begin working on
my own issues. This was a liberating, enlightening and absolutely
empowering experience! I have learned meditation techniques,
which have helped me to hear my negative beliefs! I have learned
subconscious mind tools with which to implement my new empowering
beliefs! I have learned, and will continue to learn, so much
about myself. I have acquired the skills to change anything
that I do not want in my life, and to create the life I desire!
I have found that the HLC techniques and processes
truly help people to heal and change their lives. Classes have
always been intimate, supportive and interactive. My self-mastery
assignments (formerly known as homework) have focused on how
to apply the materials discussed in class to my practice as
a counselor. I have not only learned theory; I have been trained
to do this work for a living!
In addition to one-on-one counseling, I plan to
develop a p rogram to teach children the philosophies and techniques
I have learned. I am also interested in developing seminars
for the workplace. The possibilities are endless. I have so
much to teach; and, still, there is so much to learn! Namaste!
