Welcome to this month's Spirit First newsletter!
I don't know what the heck I was thinking when I decided on this month’s newsletter theme. How can I possibly write something about “attracting the love of my life” when I informed you in last’s month newsletter that I ended many of my relationships? I have been creating permanent behavioral changes (Self-Mastery textbook page 19), implementing most of the laws of the universe, focusing on ME, ME, ME, getting to know the real me, loving me and just being. I have been too busy to attract LOVE. Or have I really? |
 |
Well, one evening I was conversing with a very dear and NEW friend of mine, HLC’s Executive Director, Linda Baran. I was going on and on about being ALONE. Linda’s response to me was, “we are not meant to be alone…this is not why we are here.” Needless to say my heart sank… I felt so sad and oh my goodness the only words I heard inside of my head were “what have I done and what am I creating?” After some hours --- days more like it --- of utilizing my Self-Mastery disciplinas (Self-Mastery textbook Lesson #10) feeling my feelings, self-parenting myself, praying, meditating and some more dis-creating, I could finally hear Linda’s words for how they were meant.
We are not meant to be alone… because we never are alone. The Divine is always with us. Every single one of our relationships exist so we may learn and grow, and mirrors to us who we are and who we want to be or not. This is the beauty of spiritual relationships (Self-Mastery Textbook Lesson #6). Connecting with others and feeling LOVE is one of the most important reasons we are here and yes - the most pleasurable.
We are constantly attracting people or rather LOVE into our lives through our Spirit. This is the LOVE of our lives! There isn’t just one. The relationships we have and create are the lessons to guide the evolution of our immortal soul. The relationship doesn’t have to be a romantic one either. These are the relationships we have with our parents, children, friends, colleagues, neighbors, etc. And the relationship may not last a lifetime, like we are programmed into believing through those magical fairy tales. It can just be for moments.
Have you ever met someone for the first time and felt in every cell of your being, “This is the one!” “Wow, I really connect with this person.” or “I have a sacred contract with this soul!” however, the relationship doesn’t evolve into what you expect or want? Ironic isn’t it…but absolutely perfect as we designed it to be. Even those moments when we meet someone at a workshop, the supermarket, a yoga class, etc. and exchange a few words or even just a smile that brightens our day or theirs, our energies vibrating and aligning with each other. This is LOVE.
Our ego mind will fool us into thinking certain beliefs about our time here and the way our relations should be with others. Unfortunately, time will never repeat itself so enjoy the moments no matter how brief it may be. Tomorrow is not here yet so appreciate the now.
Also, many of our relationships were merely created for us to learn a specific lesson about ourselves such as our temperaments and virtues. These moments are sacred and ones to cherish. This is LOVE. This is the Divine reminding us through someone else – I see you, I am with you, you are here for a reason and you are SOOOO LOVED!
Every time we allow our selves to be who we really are and express it through words or energy to someone else, especially someone we don’t know...we are giving LOVE! Even if it just lasts a moment in time. While a lifetime partner is wonderful and a gift from the angels, there are many other relationships that can and will fulfill us if we allow them.
The most important relationship, however, is the one we have with ourself. It is when we LOVE ourself fully and treat ourself with LOVE, we can truly see the mirrors before us. The greatest gift we can give to anyone is to always develop ourself and be true to who we are. And the greatest gift anyone can give to us is that person developing and being the truth of who they are too!!!
YOU are so loved soul friend, so love yourself just as much and may you always remember the LOVE you have within is the LOVE you attract! With much LOVE to the Divine for this month’s newsletter theme, and every soul who has shown me the LOVE within myself…

Do you think there are different kinds of Love? Perhaps you think that there is a kind of love for this, a kind for that, a way of loving yourself,
another way for loving another?
LOVE is ONE! It has no separate parts and no degrees; no kinds or levels; no divergences and no distinctions. It is like itself, unchanged throughout. It never alters with a person
or a circumstance. It is the heart of man and the energy of God.
|
Love’s meaning is transparent to anyone who thinks that Love can change. He does not see that changing Love is impossible. And thus he thinks that he can Love at times, and hate at other times. He also thinks that Love can be bestowed on one, and yet remain unaltered even though it is withheld from others. To believe these things of Love is not to understand it. If Love could make such distinctions, it would have to judge and blind us to the Divine Being that is within us all.
Love cannot judge! As it is One itself, it looks on all as One.
Its meaning lies in its Oneness. Love eludes
the mind that thinks of it as partial or in part.
There is no Love but God’s Love, which is unconditional Love.
There is no other principle that rules where Love is not.
Love is Law – without an opposite.
Its wholeness is the power that holds everything together as One.
It’s the link between God and man,
and holds them forever together as One and the same.
No law created by man can help you grasp the meaning of Love.
The world believes in fear, which hides the meaning of
Love and keeps it a dark secret.
The world upholds fear and in so doing violates the truth of what Love is,
and therefore the essence of what you are as well.
Seek not Love within the world of material possessions.
Love is not a dark secret encased in fear. The world’s principles are founded in fear.
They violate the Truth of Love,
and in so doing they violate you as well, for you are Love.
Yet Love is perfectly apparent to the eyes that see and ears that hear Love’s Voice.
Today we practice freeing your mind of all the laws you think you must obey; of all the limits under which you live and all the changes that
you think are part of your human destiny.
If you achieve the faintest glimmering of what Love really means,
you will have advanced in distance without measure and in time beyond
years to mastering your mind.
Let us together, then, be glad to give some time to the Divine Being within us all [Namasté],
to focus our attention daily, in prayer and meditation, that...
Only Love is Real!
I paraphrased “Love is One” from A Course in Miracles, Lesson #127. I want to share it with you because it defines what spiritual love is and what spiritual love isn’t. ~ Hu Dalconzo

Letter from the Executive Director's Desk
Greetings!
February marks the celebration of LOVE, especially romantic love. We hear and see advertisements meant to give us ideas for a “special gift” for that “special loved one”.
Our contributors this month bring you their heart felt LOVE stories and I would like to share mine.
I celebrate a birthday and mark the dates of both my marriage and divorce this month. Yikes! There were years when these memories and my loneliness would disable me emotionally for days, sometimes weeks. I would ask questions like…why is this happening to me again? Why am I alone? When will I meet Mr. Right, instead of Mr. Right Now? What is wrong with me? |
 |
Someone very wise taught me that when we ask for something we either get what we want or we get what we need to heal first so that we can get what we want. I knew that I would continue to ask these questions until I made a commitment to find the answers within myself, before I looked outside for happiness or love.
Of course anything worth having or doing takes WORK and I wouldn’t be where I am today without HLC. One of the greatest lessons I have had the privilege and honor of practicing is Lesson #6 Spiritual Relationships from Self Mastery…A Journey Home to Yourself.
“Spiritual Relationships are the closest thing to heaven that you can experience on earth!” With the help and guidance of HLC coaches and by practicing this and other self mastery lessons I have learned to be more patient, kind, and loving toward myself and others. I have learned to “heal first” and problem solve later. Once I began treating myself with loving kindness, I began attracting others who did the same.
I hope that you enjoy this newsletter.
Namaste',

Keep A Button in Your Pocket!
By Linda McCarrin, Certified Holistic Life Coach
“You make me soooo angry!” “You really disappoint me.” “You frustrate the ____ out of me!” “You REALLY know how to press my buttons! How often have we said or thought these words? Who did we lash out to? How did each person feel in the aftermath? Ladies and Gentlemen, your spouse didn’t make you angry; your son/daughter didn’t disappoint you; the new co-worker you have to train doesn’t frustrate you; nobody else presses your buttons. |
|
Your “buttons” are unhealed anger, disappointment, or frustration of your own that hasn’t been addressed. There is a story that goes like this: “If I stub my toe and it hurts for 5 minutes…all I’ve done is stub my toe. But if it hurts for 5 hours, 5 days, 5 weeks, 5 months, 5 years, or 5 DECADES…I have an INFECTED TOE! I have something that I haven’t healed yet. And, all the affirmations in the world will not cure it until I get to the underlying infection, that is, the initiating event that hurt me. All of the band-aids won’t heal this wound unless I heal the infection itself. It will keep coming up and coming up and coming up until I say to myself, “Self, it is time you took responsibility for your own emotional health.
But, how in the world do I do this? Every time I think of how he treated me, I get nuts inside! Each time I start feeling the sadness, I just shut down! There is a very wise quote I learned in 1990 while taking some wellness classes after having had a cranial tumor removed. “Love brings up anything UNLIKE itself for healing.” What this means is that we have to do good things for ourselves in order to heal. Healing takes such energy! Healing is HARD WORK!
What I would like to leave with you today are a few ways you can start the healing process. First, give yourself permission to feel your feelings and not attach them to someone. So, go ahead and feel the anger about what was done or said to you. Second, when the time is right, go to the right person (the one you are having the issue with) at the right time (not when you are in a fit of rage or too vulnerable), and with the right amount of intensity, go to that person and tell them what you are feeling. Tell them that you too, were at cause in the matter. Tell them that you goofed up too. Tell them that you are trying to understand what happened and for them to help you with that. WORD of CAUTION: Know that you are going out on a limb here and if this person is not used to hearing from you in this manner, be prepared for whatever reaction you may get. Most people are not used to hearing the Truth. This takes great Emotional Courage!
Keep your own emotional assessment handy in the form of: IFD. IFD stands for Intensity, Frequency, and Duration. How Intense am I, how often does this come up for me and how long (duration) does it last? Do this on a weekly basis at first and then as the Frequency becomes less and less, do it monthly. It is your own emotional self-assessment. It reminds of where you are with the issue, the person, and most importantly YOURSELF! It tells you how you are Healing!
So, before you leave the house today, before you get in the car, before you start your day with the kids, at the office or the health club, put a button in your pocket to remind you to take responsibility for your “buttons being pushed.”

The Love of My Life
By Eeshan Amore, Spiritual Life Coach in Training
I have been shocked and saddened of late waking up to the fact that most of the people whom I work with and encounter are so ready to believe, that which is negative and dis–empowering about them.
The three most important things I experienced in my interaction with my Life Coach were: A) I was not what I believed I was on the negative side; I'm not my mother, my father, their beliefs, or what I observed, modeled, internalized and emotionalized in my connection to them. In fact, I am not even what I believed my self to be! Can you feel the power in this? |

|
For me it was tremendously liberating to “groc” this: to get it in my gut. I am not the programs that I have been running and creating through my entire life! I have created pain in my life mostly because I created and attracted through an utterly false, completely ridiculous, debilitating paradigm that I took on through osmosis! B) The Practice of Self-parenting, focusing on and ceaselessly validating what is good in me. C) The importance of the Law of Attraction, Deliberate Creation and Allowing and the "rules" of Human Relations.
So, what does this have to do with the title of this article, "The Love of My Life?" I'll tell you. Who is the Love of My Life? Drum Rooollllll Pllleeeeeeaaassse……. Its' ME. Yes that's right, the love of my life is none other than yours truly. Can you dig it? Isn’t it silly for me or anyone else to honestly hope for or believe that we will find "that perfect person" if we are in pain; if we believe we are in need or that we lack? If we have bought into some dis – empowering paradigm about who we are how can we attract anything other than that? In such a scenario, we have no chance to attract the partner whom we want to be with. It is a sheer impossibility: a delusion of the first order.
Why would anyone want to find "The Love of their Life" anyway? Obviously it is to be happy. It is becoming exceedingly clear to me that the way for a person to be truly happy is to love their Self. You have most likely heard of the 11th commandment by now: "Thou Shalt Not BS Thy Self." I will run the risk of blasphemy here; but I have a feeling the Lord may forgive me knowing what I am trying to get at. I'd like to suggest a replacement for the first commandment and here is what I propose: "Thou Shalt LOVE THY SELF."
Why? In my experience, I have found that most of the pain and suffering I have ever gone through as well as most of the pain and suffering I have ever caused to others, stems from the fact that I believed I was what I was not, therefore, I suffered greatly and caused suffering to others because I believed a lie, an utter falsehood and as a result I felt bad.
What we most want, more than anything in life, is to just be our Self, to feel good about our Self, to free all the love and life that we intuitively feel and know is inside of us which we can never claim, manifest or attract through if we choose to believe in that which dis – empowers us and cuts us off from our Self; who we really truly are.
Therefore, in my opinion, the "love of our life" is our Self. This is our happiness. This is our freedom. This is our all. Another thing that I have recently discovered is that we are all full of goodness and love. We are all the same and we all want the same thing. To love; to love and to be loved... And only the pain of believing in what is false holds us back from ecstasy. We need to be whole; we need to be fulfilled within our own Self, through our own love for our Self. We need to generate the energy and love we all need inside of our Self. This is the higher responsibility we are called to.
I believe that this is our only and one true need. Then, from this place we can interact, attract, connect and find THAT which is within our Selves, what we are: in another. How can we see, be close to or "have" more than what we are? It is impossible. To find the love of our life, let us be the love of our life!
Let us get UP to the business of loving our Selves.

LOVE IS...
By Pratima Scholl, Spiritual Life Coach in Training
Love is felt cuddling on the couch.
Love is heard in the whispers among the pillows.
Love is tested in the heat of an argument.
We stand across from each other with arms crossed and daggers flying from our eyes. We stand in obstinate disagreement until one of us throws up our hands and declare “truce!”
We meet in the middle in an embrace that is hard to hold because we still feel our anger more than anything else. We stand in a hug that we really don’t mean because our fear and anger are still in control. |

|
We hold each other and breathe deeply. As we inhale our hearts slowly open and we allow love to once again flow. Love fills our bodies and fear is slowly exhaled. We remember that when we argue it is only our own ego preying on our own personal fears.
We feel our bodies and our hearts soften until we can finally look into the others eyes and remember that we love each other. We hold hands and speak like the calm rational adults we know ourselves to be. We empathize; we listen, we understand. We feel grateful for this skirmish because it has brought us even closer.
Love is fun on the couch
Love is sweet in the pillows but
Love is tested and defined in the heat of our battles.
Here’s wishing that all of your skirmishes are reminders of your love and conduits for healing and growth because that is the role of our Spiritual Partners. To help us feel and heal our fears until love is all that remains.
